What the Courses Entail

The courses consist of lecture instruction with visual aids and hands-on exercises. The flagger’s role is to protect project personnel and provide safe, courteous, and authoritative directions to traffic seeking passage through the work area. This course will teach students standard flagger control references, proper flagging signals procedures, and standard flagger practices for various situations. The student successfully achieves certification upon passing the written examination at the end of the course.

Is Flagging for You?

Before you commit to enrolling in a flagger certification training class, consider whether working as a flagger is for you. Although it can be financially rewarding, flagging can be physically demanding. Consider that flaggers will be standing for 8 hours or more on pavement at active construction sites, sometimes enduring cold, hot or inclement weather. In addition, their attention cannot wane. Maintaining focus on traffic is vital to maintaining a safe work site. Distracted and impaired drivers make it dangerous for all workers on the roadway, including flaggers, and sometimes cause serious or fatal crashes.
